Accompaniment
Doug Schneider is one of the most stylistically versatile and experienced accompanists in the Pacific Northwest. His performance background is both broad and deep, and he is equally at home whether accompanying opera, doing Baroque continuo realization at the harpsichord, arranging large-scale orchestral reductions, improvising jazz, or performing difficult 20th Century woodwind sonatas as a collaborative pianist. As an accompanist, he has performed in recital with some of the finest professionals on their instruments, including Sherrill Milnes, George Shirley, Steven Jordheim, Russell Peterson, Steven Mead, Patrice Michaels, Richard Zeller, and many others. His work with some of Oregon’s well-known performing ensembles (including the Oregon Symphony, Portland Opera, Cantores in Ecclesia, Cappella Romana, In Mulieribus, and Broadway in Portland at the Keller Auditorium) has helped to make him one of the most in-demand chamber collaborative musicians in the region. For many years he has also annually accompanied dozens of excellent student performers at the Oregon state solo competition, and over the decades has accompanied and coached over a hundred students who have either won medals or state championships. Mr. Schneider is one of the few musicians who has performed both the saxophone and piano parts (on different occasions) of extremely challenging pieces such as David Maslanka's Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano. Because he himself is a woodwind player and a vocalist, he has an innate sense of the needs of the performer such as breathing and phrasing, which makes him better able to collaborate with other musicians.
Mr. Schneider is available both as an accompanist and coach for recitals and concerts, competitions, auditions, juries, and recordings for musicians of all levels.
“I have worked with Doug on many recordings and live performances, and he never fails to complement my playing. Even on short notice, he prepares extremely carefully and offers insight on how to better blend the solo and pianist parts. He is easily one of the strongest collaborative pianists in the greater Portland area.”

“Doug Schneider is always my number one choice for a collaborative pianist, as his musicianship, knowledge, and ability to collaborate are all truly exceptional. He doesn't just sound good, he makes you sound better. In addition to this, Doug's extensive knowledge of the classical canon allows for a great learning experience and an additional level of refinement for whatever piece you choose to play with him.”
